November 1, 2008 - Kartik Festival
Deepavali this year falls on 28 October 2008, but devotees of Krishna consider Sri Krishna's Govardhana Puja pastime to be more important. This year, Govardhana Puja falls on 29 October, 2008. (These dates apply to PST, -8.00, specifically San Francisco. November 1, 2008 - Disappearance of Srila Prabhupada
His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami, known to his disciples as Srila Prabhupada, departed from this world on November 14, 1977. This year, as every year since, devotees honor Srila Prabhupada by fasting till noon on the lunar anniversary of his disappearance and gathering together for kirtan and worship of the spiritual master and Founder-Acharya of ISKCON.
