THE COLLAPSE OF MANAGED MARKETS - Stocks Rally As Collapse Nears

The stock market surged upwards upon hearing the US Federal Reserve may cut interest rates to save the economy. This is tantamount to heroin addicts rejoicing their morphine will be increased because doctors are concerned about their rapidly failing health.

...In the end—an end that is rapidly approaching—cheap credit undermines market stability giving rise to speculative excesses that destroys the balance between producers and consumers and savers and borrowers, a balance that exists naturally in free and open markets.

The collapse of communism's managed markets happened in the 1980s. Twenty-five years later, capitalism's managed markets are now also collapsing. The collapse of capital markets is going to be difficult and painful and will bring hardship and heartache in its wake. But have faith, for the reappearance of free markets may follow—and with them, the return of gold and silver currencies.

Reintroduce gold coin
That's not money; it's paper A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami

RAMESVAR: There was one question I had, Srila Prabhupada. You have written in the Third Volume of the First Canto [Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.17.39] different instructions for the age of Kali, how there'll be compulsory marriage and so on and so on. And you mentioned about the gold standard, that this is very bad, this artificial standard of monetary exchange. PRABHUPADA: Oh, yes. It is very bad. RAMESVAR: In the future this is something that we should try to correct. PRABHUPADA: You should introduce coin, real money. more

In Gold We Trust

excerpt from lecture on Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.15.45, Los Angeles, December 23, 1973

So it is the duty of the king to see, to give protection from this onslaught of nature, to make the life successful. That is the duty of the king. That is the duty of the father. That is the duty of the spiritual master. That is the duty of friends and relatives. Then one should cooperate, one should give protection. Just like these children are there. If the father, mother and the teacher, they do not give these children protection, then what is their future hope?

So unnecessarily, so-called education will not help. Let them become Krishna conscious. That is the duty of the government. Just like we are now speaking on the slogan, "In God We Trust." Is that the slogan, "In God We Trust"? So this is a slogan, but it is the duty of the government, that "We are using this slogan, but actually what we are doing about people's education that they may know what is God and then trust?" But everyone is godless. And still, as a matter of fashion, we are writing, "In God We Trust." This is another cheating. Nobody trusts in God, and they write, "In God We Trust." And unless I write... Of course I do not wish to say very harsh word, that unless I cheat you that way, how a man will accept one piece of paper as one thousand dollars? [laughter] You see? It is a grand cheating, that "I am giving one thousand dollars to you." But if I value, it is not even one farthing. This is called maya. It is not, but I accept. I accept. If people become enlightened, "No, we are not going to accept this piece of paper as one thousand dollars. We must have gold," so many things will be solved immediately. So many things. But because we agree to be cheated, the cheaters are cheating and things are going on wrong. This is called Kali-yuga.

Wealth in natural resources

excerpt from purport, Srimad-Bhagavatam 4.9.62

Anyone who has seen the Red Fort in Delhi must have marked that the walls are made of marble and were once decorated with jewels. During the British period all these jewels were taken away and dispatched to the British Museum.

The conception of worldly opulence was formerly based mainly on natural resources such as jewels, marble, silk, ivory, gold and silver. The advancement of economic development was not based on big motorcars. Advancement of human civilization depends not on industrial enterprises, but on possession of natural wealth and natural food, which is all supplied by the Supreme Personality of Godhead so that we may save time for self-realization and success in the human form of body.

Just a piece of paper

excerpt from lecture on Bhagavad-gita 9.4, Melbourne, April 22, 1976

There are two ways. One destination is to go back to home, back to Godhead. Another destination is to be involved in the cycle of birth and death. So this human form of life is the junction to decide where you make your way. You are going to back to home, back to Godhead, or again you are going back to the cycle of birth and death, mrityu-samsara-vartmani? Vartmani means path. That you have to decide in this human form of life because you are not animal. Animal, they have no intelligence. Their first duty is where to get money, or not money, food. Money is required for purchasing food, but the animals, they do not know that food can be purchased. They are searching after food. But we are civilized; we are searching after money. Money is required for purchasing food. Why don't you produce food directly? That is intelligence. You are getting money, very good. What is that money? A paper. You are being cheated. It is written there, "hundred dollars." But what is that hundred dollars? It is cheap of..., piece of paper only. But because we are so fool, we are accepting a piece of paper, hundred dollars, and the struggle for existence for a piece of paper. Why don't you be intelligent—"Why shall I take the piece of paper? Give me food"? But that intelligence you have lost. Therefore my Guru Maharaja used to say the present human society is combination of cheaters and cheated, that's all. No intelligent person. Formerly money was gold and silver coins. It had some value. But what is the present currency? Simply piece of paper. Bunch of papers. During the last war the government failed in Germany, and these bunch of papers were thrown in the street. Nobody was caring. Nobody was caring.

So our civilization is based on that way. You require food. That's fact. Therefore Krishna says, annad bhavanti bhutani [Bg. 3.14]. You produce your food. Anywhere you can produce your food. The land is enough land. In Australia you have got enough land. In Africa you have enough land, uncultivated. No. They'll not produce food. They will produce coffee and tea and slaughter animals. This is their business. I understand that in your country animals are slaughtered and exported for trade. Why export? You produce your own food and be satisfied. Why you are after that piece of hundred dollars paper? Produce your own food and eat sumptuously, be healthy and chant Hare Krishna. This is civilization. This is civilization.

So therefore Krishna said that "One who does not take care of My instruction," ashraddadhanah, "no faith..." Ashraddadhanah purushah [Bhagavad-gita 9.3]. Purusha means any man, any human being, living being, but a human being because otherwise who will hear Krishna? The cats and dogs will not hear. That is not possible. They have no capacity. But you are all human being. Either you are Australian or Indian or American or..., you can hear Bhagavad-gita. There is no doubt about it. It is a question of explaining in your language. So we are trying to do that. The Bhagavad-gita, the message of Bhagavad-gita, is not sectarian. Don't take it like that. It is science how to make the whole human society peaceful and happy. It doesn't matter whether you are Australian, American, Indian, or African. And practically we see—we have got branches all over the world. Those who have taken to Krishna consciousness, they are happy. So take it very seriously. Don't neglect it, that "It is a sectarian religion of the Hindus or..." No. Krishna is not for the Hindus.
