Who is that Superior Person?

Campaign Reaches Fever Pitch

With two days to go before Super Tuesday's multistate nominating contests, candidates for both parties campaigned furiously on Sunday, trying to seize voters' support in the hours before the country's attention shifted to the Super Bowl.

A variety of weekend polls showed Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York was locked in a tight race with Senator Barack Obama of Illinois for the Democratic nomination. A CBS News poll released Sunday evening showed Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Obama each had the support of 41 percent of the 491 Democratic primary voters it surveyed.

In contrast, Senator John McCain appeared to be heading into Tuesday's Republican contests with a clear lead over his chief rival, former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts. The CBS News poll showed Mr. McCain gaining the support of 46 percent of the 325 Republican primary voters it surveyed, compared with 23 percent for Mr. Romney.

The polls also showed that significant numbers of voters have simply not yet decided who they are going to vote for, or if they have decided, are not fully committed to their decisions. About four in 10 Democratic voters and more than half of the Republican said they still could change their minds before Tuesday's contests, the CBS News poll said.

Ass, Elephant, Tiger or Lion?
Votes - even a great quantity - do not qualify a leader A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami
Again election, as if election will change their quality. They remain... Let them remain as rascal, and simply by election, in place of one rascal, another rascal will improve it. This is the... Let them remain rascal, but get vote. So that is... That is described in Bhagavatam, shva-vid-varahoshtra-kharaih samstutah purushah pashuh [Srimad-Bhagavatam 2.3.19]. The population is shva-vid-varahoshtra, and they are giving vote—another big pashu [animal]. That's all. This is going on. This is democracy. The voters are pashu, and he is selecting another big pashu. This is going on. The rascals, they do not know, If instead of a tiger, we select one lion, then what is the difference? Simply name. The tiger was president. Now the lion is the president. And both of them—animals. Where is the man, human being? This is going on. And because they are pashu, shva-vid-varaha, they are happy: "Now there is lion. Now the tiger is driven away. Now there is lion." This is going on.more

Choosing the master to whom you will submit

excerpt from morning walk conversation with disciples, Los Angeles, April 29, 1973

PRABHUPADA: Yes. That is my point. You have to worship somebody superior. Now it is up to you to select who is that superior. But the principle is there. Now so many political parties, they have selected one god. Somebody has selected Churchill. Somebody has selected Gandhi. Somebody has selected somebody, somebody. But they must have to select. Our proposition is: "If you are selecting somebody to worship, why not the perfect? Why you select the imperfect?" That is our Krishna consciousness. You have to do it. You have to select somebody as your leader. You cannot do without it. So the answer is that if you are selecting somebody to worship, Krishna says in the Bhagavad-gita: mattah parataram nanyat [Bg. 7.7]. "There is nobody superior than Me." Then why not go to the best person? Why should we go to the inferior?

KARANDHAR: For all the six opulences, they will choose someone.

PRABHUPADA: Eh? Eh?

KARANDHAR: For all the six opulences, they'll choose someone, someone very beautiful...

PRABHUPADA: Yes. But there is none complete. Except Krishna. Nobody's complete. Our pro, philosophy is that we have to select if we... That we must have to. Otherwise, there is no life. Just like you scientists, you quote so many leaders, scientific leaders. Without this, there is no life. So... Just like in the Bengali there is a proverb that if I to, if I have to steal and become a thief, why not plunder the government treasury? Why pickpocketing? If I have to be punished as criminal, as thief, let me plunder the government treasury and then let me go to jail. So this is our policy. So if we have to submit to somebody, why not the best and perfect? That is our philosophy. You cannot avoid submission. That is not possible. Who is there who does not submit to anyone? Find out anyone. If you, if a man has nobody to submit, he brings a dog and submits to him. The dog is passing stool. He's standing. He's submitted to the dog. The dog is passing urine, he's submitting: "Yes sir, you pass your urine. I take care of you." This is the nature. If you do not submit to God, then ultimately you have to submit to the dog. This is nature. You cannot avoid it. You have to submit. There is no other way. Because your position is like that. Without submitting to one, you cannot live. Jivera svarupa haya nitya-krishna-dasa [Chaitanya-charitamrita Madhya 20.108-109]. This is the philosophy given by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

SVARUP DAMODAR: Ultimately when death comes, we have to submit to...

PRABHUPADA: Yes, one has to submit to death.
