Here we go again. This time, total solar eclipse on Friday, August 1st. (Lunar eclipse coming up on the 16th, but more about that later.)
The path of totality picks up in Arctic Canada and sweeps across Greenland, over central Russia, along the border lands of Mongolia and China down into China at sunset. Take a look at the path. Greatest totality occurs in Russia near the town named Nadym at Lat 65°38.8' North, Long 72°16.4' East.
The penumbral shadow will cover northeastern North America, most of Europe and Asia. Pretty much all of the northern hemisphere.
Is China worried that the eclipses will affect the Olympic games? Officially they say not, but we'll know when they beat on their pots and pans and light firecrackers. Sound like fun? We recommend beating drums and cymbols and loudly calling Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. Much more exciting when you try it in public, up and down the streets! But you don't have to wait for the eclipse to chant Hare Krishna. Any time is auspicious for that purpose.
Read more about the EFI, or Eclipse Field of Influence by Patita Pavana aka Miles Davis, jyotish scholar in his article Sword from the Sky. Do you suppose this accounts for the recent terrorist blasts in India (Bangalore and Ahmedabad) and Istanbul?

Astrologers note that the sun is moving through Cancer (will be at 15°08 at time of eclipse). Moon is of course combust at eclipse time, moving at the rate of 35'48" per hour over the 24 hour period from 9°25' Cancer at 12:00 UT August 1st to 23°44' Cancer at the same time August 2nd. Apart from this, Jupiter is retrograde for the entire month. If anyone wants to write in and tell us how they interpret this for the benefit or detriment of the world, we will be happy to print it. Consider this a dare.
Look to the inserted panel for times. And stay tuned for further news about the upcoming lunar eclipse.
