Africa 'witnessing birth of a new ocean'

Geologists working in the remote Afar region of Ethiopia say the ocean will eventually split the African continent in two, though it will take about 10 million years.

...Used to understanding changes in the planet on timescales of millions of years, the international team of scientists including Dr Wright have seen amazing changes in Afar in the past five years, where the continent is cracking open, quite literally underneath their feet.

...The researchers say that they are extremely lucky to be able to witness the birth of this ocean as the process is normally hidden beneath the seas.

Childish speculation
Where Were You 20 Billion Years Ago? Hansadutta das

Even the big scientist does not know what he is, where he has come from, what he should do, and where he will go when matter, in the shape of his body, becomes old, worn out and dies. Still, he publishes his theories, theses and hypotheses about how life supposedly began 20 billion years ago from a primordial soup of amino acids. The scientist does not know what life is. He knows nothing about what happened 20 billion years ago, and his speculations have nothing to do with science. They are no more valuable than the child's idea that the moon is made of green cheese or that the stork delivers babies. more

Nobody fit to survive

excerpt from lecture on Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.7.5-6, Johannesburg, October 15, 1975

This business, struggle for existence, "Survival of the fittest," they say. But nobody is fit to survive. Everyone has to die. Nobody, even big, big scientists or big, big philosophers and... They cannot survive. They talk of millions of years, but personally they live only fifty or sixty years. This is their position. They simply cheat people: "Maybe." "Perhaps." "Millions of years." And you are going to live for fifty years. Why talking of millions of years?
