Global Food Crisis 2010 Means Financial Armageddon

If you read any economic, financial, or political analysis for 2010 that doesn’t mention the food shortage looming next year, throw it in the trash, as it is worthless. There is overwhelming, undeniable evidence that the world will run out of food next year. When this happens, the resulting triple digit food inflation will lead panicking central banks around the world to dump their foreign reserves to appreciate their currencies and lower the cost of food imports, causing the collapse of the dollar, the treasury market, derivative markets, and the global financial system. The US will experience economic disintegration. go to story

The real get-rich quick scheme
An Alternative Socio-Economic Model A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami

PRABHUPADA: You have no difficulty. You are happy more and more. Immense land. You can come, hundreds. We can provide. There is food. There is shelter.   KIRTANANANDA: They are worried that by protecting the cow it would not be economic, that they would lose. But actually we have proof—the more we protect cows, the more we gain in opulence.   PRABHUPADA: Yes.   KIRTANANANDA: Our community is gaining in opulence.   PRABHUPADA: Yes. ...If you have got grain, then you are rich. And if you have got cows, then you are rich. This is the standard of Vedic richness. They don't say, "Keep some papers and you become rich." All rascal, one thousand dollar I promise to pay, a piece of paper. Practical, we have got enough food grains. We have got enough... That is richness. What is use of paper? Even gold you have got, you have to exchange. And if you have grain, immediate food. Just boil with milk, and it is nectarean, param anna [first-class food], immediately. Take some wood collected from the wood and have fire, put the milk and the grains—oh, you'll get so nice food, nutritious, full of vitamin, and so easily made. It is practical. So tasteful, so nutritious, and don't require. If you simply boil little milk and little grain, whole day, so much sweet rice, you take—bas [it is sufficient]. You don't require any more. And if you add little apples and fruits, oh, it is heavenly. Your whole day free from any food anxiety, and you can work. And you can work. You can chant Hare Krishna. Make this ideal life here. America has got good potency. We have got so much land here. We can have hundreds of New Vrindabans or farms like that. And people will be happy. And invite all the world, "Please come and live with us. Why you are suffering congestion, overpopulation? Welcome here. Chant Hare Krishna." more

Citizens suffering under misguided leaders

excerpt from a conversation, Caracas, February 21, 1975

HRIDAYANANDA: [Translating a question from the audience at a lecture] What is our policy towards the problem of overpopulation and food shortage in the world now when the world leaders are not willing to do anything? What is our policy towards these problems?

PRABHUPADA: Produce food. But you are producing bolts and nuts. You eat them. Motor tire, you are producing motor tire, bolts and nuts. You eat it.

[Hridayananda translates into Spanish; audience responds with laughter] The energy is spoiled, creating problem. Everyone is engaged in manufacturing motor parts.

HRIDAYANANDA: [Translates] He's saying that he himself is involved with political leaders, and he said he's found that they're completely unwilling. They don't want to hear anything about the solution, and they're completely stuck to their own way. So what can ISKCON do...

PRABHUPADA: They will suffer, that's all.

HRIDAYANANDA: He said is there anything we can do in the political field to try to...

PRABHUPADA: If they will not take, they don't want to hear, then they must suffer.

HRIDAYANANDA: He's saying all the human race is suffering due to the bad points of the leaders.

PRABHUPADA: Yes, because the rascal leaders.

Produce your own food

excerpt from a conversation, Atlanta, March 2, 1975

SVARUP DAMODAR: They have several plans to procure food from under the water, under the ocean. So they have all of these different schemes already started. Because the shortage of food on the surface of the earth... They say it's going to be very imminent in the coming future. So they have already started plans to make some food...

PRABHUPADA: Another nonsense. They are not producing food; they are producing motor tires, and still they will say "shortage." Just see. Now, in this city of Atlanta or any big, big city, who is producing food? Everyone is eating; nobody is producing.

SVARUP DAMODAR: They will say it is produced by farmers.

PRABHUPADA: Yes, but... Farmers are producing, and you are eating, but you are not producing. Therefore gradually your food will be shortage. You are depending on others. The farmers, they do not produce food for human being. They produce food for the cows.

SVARUP DAMODAR: For the cows?

PRABHUPADA: Yes. You do not know this? These rascals produce for the animals, not for human.

TAMAL KRSNA: They eat the cows.

PRABHUPADA: They eat the cows.
