Thank you Locanananda Prabhu. Very nice letter. I remember reading
somewhere that Srila Prabhupada mentioned that any melody is acceptable
for chanting the Holy Name. However I find that the original melody and
rhythm is the easiest for everyone to follow. Other melodies tend to
move the lines too much and people cannot follow. Then you get so many
people singing off key, losing the joy of joining in and then stopping.
The idea is to engage everyone to chant Hare Krsna and the original
melody is very easy and, as you say, prabhu, is very familiar to many
in society at large. So now more and more this should be done as often
as possible en MASSE!! Then send out the video as soon as you
get
home... send it world wide. I would like to see (hear :) ) a world
session in real time all over the planet. Everyone at the same time for
30 minutes. From organised street Hari Nam, to people chanting at work,
at home, out for a walk or even doing house work. Everyone chanting
this original melody at the same time as everyone else ALL OVER THE
WORLD!!! For thirty minutes. Of course the timing would be different
but that is not important. The Maha Mantra travels seven times around
the world each time it is chanted. JUST IMAGINE THE BLESSING FOR THE
WHOLE WORLD!!! SO SET YOUR WATCHES!? Let us know. WE ARE READY!!

ps. I am somewhat attached to my conga prabhu but I get your drift.
When I use it I try to use it to accompany the Mrdangas, allowing the
Mrdangas to keep the lead. Mrdangas should always keep the lead role in
my view. But that for me in regards to others is not a hard and fast
rule. I sometimes on my own at home use the Jamaican Farewell melody to
chant the Maha Mantra. Other cultures will in the future will adapt the
Maha Mantra to their instruments and melodies but the original melody
and rythm by Srila Prabhupada I believe will be considered the original
classic and it will be kept and learned world wide.
