Question Mark Over the Revised Books

Gadadhara das - Jun 15, 2009

Jayadvaita's changes to Prabhupada's books thrown into doubt
from post at Istagosthi

I heard of Jayadwaita's recent visit to ISKCON Berkeley and I purposely did not go because I have seen his very unVaisnava behaviour before in New Vrindavan back at the first Kulimela. At that time Kuva and I were attending a class by Varsana Swami.

Sneaky, sneaky
Revisions to Srila Prabhupada's Books Documented Das devi dasi
It has been pointed out that any corrections to typos, spelling and grammar could be given in footnotes or mentioned on an errata page at the end of the chapter. But Jayadvaita Swami's revisions are slipped quietly, seamlessly and insidiously into Srila Prabhupada's books so that unaware and unsuspecting readers will believe these are the words of Srila Prabhupada. more

At the end of his class, he took questions and Kuva told him that he was reading Srila Prabhupada's purport to a song and listening to Srila Prabhupada give the actual purport to the song. He told him that he noticed that they purposely omitted a very key thing that Srila Prabhupada says. (Sorry but I can not remember what exactly it was, but it was important) Kuva got a little emotional [and] exclaimed, "Why would they do something like this? WHY?" Varsana Swami replied that he did not know because he doesn't deal with the editing.

Suddenly Jayadwaita came storming out of no where! It was as if he had been listening to the whole thing from a surveillance camera in a secret room or something. He immediately started yelling about book changes and this and that. "And if Nimai Pandit wants to come here and cause trouble....".....blah blah blahhh!!!! He looked like Darth Vader– only he was in saffron instead of black (a more appropriate color for him). Vaiasaki Prabhu was there had some very good questions for him, and of course he just brushed him off.

Then later on in the evening, Nara Narayan Prabhu came to the front of the temple, and Jayadwaita started yelling at him, "Why are you writing all this rubbish on the internet?!?!?!!" Nara Narayan Prabhu calmly told him that a sannyasi is supposed to control his temper and walked toward me and we drove off in his van to another devotee's house. Apparently Jayadwaita ran after the van to apologize, but we didnt see him.

Anyways, the whole idea for this invitation by Jayadwaita is not to come to the right conclusion, but to only defeat the opponents (in their own eyes). Then they can tell everyone that "See, we already had a meeting about this, and WE DEFEATED ALL THEIR ARGUMENTS!" If they had any doubt about these book changes they would not be spending so much money (MILLIONS AND MILLIONS) to sue Madhu Pandit. Their whole philosophy depends on these book changes. Basically they EDITED them.... so THEY are the AUTHORITY and NOT Srila Prabhupada. They have no regard for what Srila Prabhupada actually wants. Their motive and philosophy is to CHANGE.

The only way is to sue them. This is the last hope to set it right.

There are so many good arguments against the book changes. But honestly there is just one argument that defeats all of them. I always tell people this one:

"YOU HAVE TWO BOOKS HERE. (I hold up the two Gitas.) ONE IS A BOOK THAT SRILA PRABHUPADA MIGHT HAVE APPROVED OF OR HE ALSO MAY NOT HAVE APPROVED OF (I point to the new, changed Gita). THERE IS A LARGE QUESTION MARK HOVERING OVER THIS ONE, AND WE WILL NEVER KNOW THE ANSWER. (Then I point to the 1972 edition.) BUT WE ARE 100% SURE THAT THIS ONE IS AUTHORIZED. WE KNOW SRILA PRABHUPADA HAD TWO MILLION DISTRIBUTED IN 1975 ALONE. WE KNOW HOW HAPPY HE WAS WITH THIS EDITION! WE KNOW THAT HE APPROVED OF IT! 100%!!!! THIS IS CONCLUSIVE."
