Nadia flood toll rises to six

Krishnagar, Sept. 28 (PTI): The death toll in the floods in Nadia district in West Bengal has risen to six with four cases of drowning reported on Wednesday.

Three persons, including a woman and her three-year-old child, were killed and five others injured when a boat carrying them to a relief camp capsized on Bhagirathi river at Nabadwip, district magistrate Rajesh Pandey said.

In a separate incident, a 23-year-old youth was drowned when the boat in which he was moving to a safer place capsized at Gayeshour near Kalyani, the district magistrate said.

Two others were killed due to drowning and wall collapse in the district since Saturday.

The floods have affected one lakh people in the district and 25,000 people have been shifted to safer places, Pandey said.

While the water was receding at Kaligunj it was stable in Swarupnagar, Pandey said.

Subject: Sujitendriya and His Family!

(Following is an informal, unofficial and personal report, Some details in this report may differ from other versions.)

Mayapur is flooded. Just before the flood, it CONTINUOUSLY rained for more than three days and night all over Bengal. Too much water to handle by the dams upstream of Ganga. Government officials let water out. That with all other water flooded Mayapur badly. It was very sudden. The devotees tried very hard to stop the flood, but Ganges over took Mayapur.

Yesterday at about 5pm Sujitendriya Prabhu and his family were in a boat going somewhere. We are not sure exactly how many people were in the boat.

But we think Sujitendriya Prabhu, long time Mayapur gurukuli; Sri Hari Prabhu, his elder brother and the president of a temple in ISKCON Bangladesh; Sujitendriya Prabhu's wife, who is the grand-daughter of Srila Prabhupada; and Sujitendriya Prabhu's eldest daughter were on the boat. The road between Hularghat and Yogapitha is flooded and there was very, very strong current.

The boat capsized. In that saddest event, Sujitendriya Prabhu's wife, his elder brother, and his daughter drowned and left this world.

ISKCON Mayapur leaders and Mayapur devotees frantically took them to doctors at the hospital and tried to save them.

Unfortunately, these three great devotees left this world in Mayapur.

On behalf of Mayapur devotees and gurukulis here, we would like to request all devotees to pray for Sujitendriya Prabhu, his departed family, and his surviving family members.

It is the saddest moment for Sujitendriya Prabhu and his family. A couple of months ago, his younger brother died, leaving behind a widow and children. And a few years ago, another older brother left this world leaving behind his widow and children, whom Sujitendriya was looking after responsibly. And now his other elder brother, his daughter, and his beloved wife left this world.

It must be devastating and unbearable for Sujitendriya Prabhu to have witnessed his family die before his eyes. ISKCON Mayapur leaders and devotees are personally helping and comforting Sujitendriya Prabhu and his family go through this unfortunate event. He has one surviving infant daughter.

Please sincerely pray for Sujitendriya Prabhu and his family.

Hare Krishna,
Sincerely,

Mathus
