Welcome to New Talavan Community
Jayapatni Gopi devi dasi replies Das devi dasi - 3 May 2009
30 years of dedication to cow protection and a life of high thinking, plain living.
Das dasanudas devi dasi: How are things at New Talavan Farm? We don't see much in the way of news about the farm projects. Just the other day I was looking at photos of the deities at Gita Nagari and remembering how successful the farm was back in the days when Prabhupada was still here, wondering what is going on there now. I hope all is well with the devotees in New Talavan.
JAYAPATNI GOPI: I am attempting to attach a couple of links [see photos] from NT. Thank you so much for asking. Please come to visit us for one of our festivals. I suggest our Go Puja in October. The weather is perfect and you can enjoy farm life at it's best.

Sustainable Organic Agriculture
New Talavan is a 1200-acre, 30-year-old spiritual community practicing sustainable organic agriculture and dairy farming, moving toward agricultural and economic self-sufficiency. Our spiritual master Srila Prabhupada instructed his followers and disciples to build self-sufficient farm communities practicing sustainable organic agriculture. His spiritual foresight revealed the end of the petroleum-based economy long before most people saw it coming. There is plenty of room for agricultural development at New Talavan.
Organic Gardening Volunteers Program Currently we are accepting applications for organic gardening and farming volunteers. We have a three-acre garden that needs care and maintenance, as well as working with our resident gardener for planning next season's crops and improvements. We have a year-round growing season, with only about a dozen light frosts per year. We also have lots of cows & oxen; we are currently milking two cows and training several oxen for plowing and other work.
As a volunteer, you would be able to pick a camping spot on our beautiful 1200 acre farm, and camp out while you stay. We provide showers, bathrooms and plentiful delicious vegetarian food. We also have a thriving Vedic temple and spiritual community. You would not be required to participate in temple services, but you would be required to observe spiritual principles while on the property: no intoxication, meat eating, illicit sex or gambling. Our motto is "Simple Living and High Thinking." more

Das: Hare Krishna
Thank you, Mother Jayapatni, all obeisances for you, all glories to Srila Prabhupada. Very pleased to receive the photos and news of New Talavan. Who is in charge over there? Do you know whether devotees who support rittvik initiation are welcome there as long as they are not political agitators?
Thank you for the invitation. I wish I could visit, but I'm living in Malaysia! Have been here for 25 years now, a little less than half my life, and it doesn't look like I'll be returning to the USA except for occasional visits to family on the West Coast.
But New Talavan is beautiful, and I'm relieved to see that it is still being maintained, that the cows are being looked after, the Deity worship goes on, and looks like the devotees must be happy, or all these things would not be happening.
Thanks for writing back to me.
JAYAPATNI GOPI: Hare Krsna Das: Yes all devotees are welcome here. Also there is a small rittvik center 1-1/2 miles from NT front gate. Hope to meet with you someday. Take care.
