Hansadutta
Prabhuji,
Thanks so much for this letter. My obeisances to you all.
Let me say this in very clear and uncertain terms, this Haripada das of
Honduras is a very sincere and real devotee of the Lord and the Lord's
disciple. His words are just like Vidura the Pilgrim, the veritable
Yama-avatatra, in his conversations with the (spiritually and
physically) blind Dhritrashtra.
What greater clue do we need to the answer to Sri Haripada Prabhu's sincere and genuine queries: Srila Prabhupada often mentioned that "Dhritarashtra" refers to "one who has usurped or stolen the throne and the kingdom", as it goes without saying, through wicked schemes and self-interest fit only for a desperate person of the nature of a demon who has erected an artificial wall to protect himself from the very
soldiers bent upon killing him and which he has created through his own
bad karmas and evil designs.
My Godbrother, the fate of so many little teeny tiny Dhritarashtras is
carved in stone on the rock wall of ISKCON history (most
unfortunately.) Look here, I personally take no pleasure in the
terrible personal tragedies affecting so many mleccha gurus.
Whether the term mleccha-guru refers to "a mleccha who
has become a great devotee and spiritual master through devotion to his
own Guru Maharaja, Srila Prabhupada" or whether it is used in the sense
of "a mleccha-fied and false guru" is open to
discussion. Nonetheless, ISKCON has hung out dirty laundry a few times
too many, and the world is demanding explanations.
It is just like when the British went to India. They convinced the
Indians that they were the cat's meow. Then a few generations later,
once they had bankrupted a once-great civilization, Indians were forced
to UK due to intricate colonal mischief, only to find (surprise,
surprise) that they hadn't exactly arrived in Paradise-upon-Thames. So
these gurus similarly made so many pretenses to Krishna
consciousness, only to hang themselves for cheating in the Name of Lord
Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
You know well that Srila Prabhupada advised us like some great Niti
Shastri Brihaspati himself, "Be very careful. You are dealing with
Krishna. He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Spiritual life is
like that: straight and narrow, but if a wrong move is taken, there is
blood in every direction."
And...
"Krishna consciousness is simple for the simple and difficult for the
crooked."
In ISKCON we witnessed a strange phenomenon in the history of spiritual
movements. We have seen devotees of the quality of gurus give
up being gurus to become their own concepts of gurus.
As disciples of a rare mahatma and bona fide representitive of
Lord Krishna, Brahmaji, Vyasa, etc, we were already qualified as gurus.
So why did gurus give up being gurus to be gurus?
You tell me.
"Water is found with digging. So it is with the genuine disciple. His
service to his spiritual master is the key to the ocean of
nectar."—Devaguru Brihaspati from the Garuda Purana
I have always felt that he who is supposed to be the acharya
will rise, sooner or later, since these were the words of our beloved
spiritual master many many times over and over. Let anyone come
foreward to propogate Krishna consciousness. But serving the divine
lotus feet of the Sri Paramhamsa Guru Maharaja is different than
comandeering his gaddi. We must pray to Lord Krishna to give us
intelligence, by Srila Prabhupada's grace.
I think we agree on these points.
Humbly, your eternal servant in Srila Prabhupada,
Patita Pavana das Adhikary
