BANGALORE: City Civil Court Judge K S Balakrishna on Friday declared ISKCON Bangalore as the absolute owner of the temple on the Hare Krishna Hill in Rajajinagar. ISKCON Bangalore represented by its Secretary Stoka Krishna Das filed a case in the City Civil Courts seeking the court to restrain ISKCON Mumbai from interfering in the affairs of ISKCON Bangalore in 2001.
The difference cropped up over the issue of spiritual succession in ISCKON after Prabhupada.
According to ISKCON Bangalore, Prabhupada, the founder of ISKCON, had given a written directive that he shall remain the Acharya of ISKCON organisation even after his death as none of his devotees were qualified to become Gurus. However, his western disciples declared themselves Acharyas and occupied the position of Guru, thereby governing the lives of thousands of devotees. ISKCON Bangalore, headed by its president Madhu Pandit Dasa opposed the existing succession system and said that they would abide by Prabhupad’s directive and consider only him as their Guru. Following which, ISKCON Mumbai tried to dislodge the office-bearers of ISKCON Bangalore, prompting them to file case.
After listening to the arguments and counter arguments of both the parties for nine years, City Civil Court Judge KS Balakrishna declared ISKCON Bangalore as the owner of the Sri Radha Krishna Temple.
